Chocolate Bamboo Cake

All my friends are getting their driver’s licenses. I’m not. You could say that I’m a rebel of sorts. I’m a bit strange like that… although a lot of my friends are rushing to do their driving tests I stay at home sleeping, baking, eating. You know, living.

My parents though are pushing me to start the process of getting a driver’s license (here, in Ontario, there is a graduated licensing program). Why would anyone want to drive though when they can get chauffeured?

Tutorial: Making Marshmallow Fondant

Fondant is a type of icing used to decorate cakes, cookies, cupcakes, and pastries (it’s how they make wedding cakes all shiny and smooth!) Fondant can usually be divided into two groups: poured fondant (like the type that can be found in Cadbury Creme Eggs) and rolled fondant. Regular rolled fondant (which contains things like glycerin) is not very tasty, while rolled marshmallow fondant (abbreviated often as MMF) is a bit softer and tastes much better. Fondant can be purchased at cake decorating stores and art supply stores such as Michaels, or made at home. Store bought fondant is expensive and also tastes awful. I mean, really bad. (2017/08/11: Actually Satin Ice is pretty good!)

Finished fondant

Despite popular belief, fondant can be easy to make, inexpensive, and delicious. Gone are the days of disgustingly sweet fondant (I have personally banished them – you can thank me by subscribing or sending me gifts… I like chocolate).

“Eggs with Toast”

Uhg. It’s only eleven in the morning. Back to sleep I go. Noon? I could do a bit better. And then, at one, I rise. It’s cold. On the windows there’s condensation and I see the grass covered with frost. I shiver. Is it winter already? I put on a long-sleeved tee-shirt and a pair of track pants and head off to brush my teeth. Back and forth, back and forth. Up and down, up and down. Still tired, I creep down the stairs and have fried eggs with a bagel (also known as pure bliss). My dog scratches. I threaten to scratch him back if he doesn’t stop. He doesn’t stop. I scratch him back.

Hmm… what to do next? I lie down on the couch and my Cavalier King Charles Spaniel lies on top of me. I feel warm as I watch a movie. I pet my dog and lie there happily  in my family room. Life’s good. Around 4pm I realize I have an English assignment due and run to my computer. I stare at the blank word document before me and wonder how writers do it. Perhaps they use SparkNotes?
